Nara（奈良）

Nara was the capital of Japan during the Nara period (8th century). The entire prefecture is dotted with historical sites, shrines and temples. Don't miss the World Heritage sites of Horyuji Temple, the world's oldest wooden structure; Kofukuji Temple, famous for its statue of Ashura; and Todaiji Temple, Yakushiji Temple, and Toshodaiji Temple, famous for the Daibutsu (Great Buddha). Yoshino-Kumano is designated as part of the World Heritage Site "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range. Kasuga Taisha Shrine is home to 1,100 deer, which are regarded as messengers of the gods. The Shuni-e (a ceremony to pray for people's happiness) at Todai-ji Temple is an event not to be missed. 8世紀の奈良時代に都があった。県の全域に史跡や神社仏閣が点在する。世界遺産に登録されている、世界最古の木造建築法隆寺、阿修羅像で有名な興福寺、大仏で有名な東大寺、薬師寺、唐招提寺は見逃せない。吉野熊野は世界遺産「紀伊山地の霊場と参詣道」の一部として指定されている。春日大社には神使とされている1100頭の鹿が暮らしている。イベントとしては人々の幸福を願う東大寺の修二会は見逃せない。
